Heather Truax

Owner/Lead Trainer

Like many of my clients, I owned a dog that had behavioral issues but there wasn’t a dog trainer in my local area that could help me. I had adopted a young, female bully breed that matured into a dog with severe dog on dog aggression. Dog trainers in my home town weren’t equipped with the tools or knowledge about behavior modification. So, I began doing my own research and working with my dog, Honey, to help her cope with a world that was filled with dogs. After a few failures but many successes, Honey was able to reach a level of advanced obedience and off leash reliability. We were often able to seamlessly move throughout crowds at dog friendly events without worry but I stayed vigilant and advocated for Honey’s personal space. This is where my passion for dog training was born.

The knowledge that I gained was further put to work when rescues, my local shelter and a dog rehabilitation farm began asking for help with their dogs. This helped me garner some unique experience that I still use in my daily dog training. Soon, I was under the apprenticeship of a local dog training company that eventually led to my employment as the lead dog trainer and behavior specialist of my local SPCA dog shelter. Through working at the shelter, I was forced to think of unique solutions for dog training in that high stress environment. With doing that, I was able to successfully place many dogs with a multitude of behavioral challenges into life-long homes. I also provided after adoption dog training support and helped to reduce the return or surrender of countless dogs.

I bring many years of dog training experience with me (Nearly 13 years! Time flies!) and a specialization in aggressive behavior and situations that need delicate or complex solutions. I have a judgment free, positive attitude and when it comes to aggressive behaviors, I’ve been there and done that! While I love watching the transformation of my challenging dog training clients, I also enjoy training all breeds for obedience and helping owners live happily with their pets!

Elvira - Dog Extraordinaire

Odds are that you’ll be seeing this beautiful creature at some point during our training, so it seems only proper to introduce her! Elvira is a Belgian Malinois that I’ve owned since she was 10 weeks old. She is my “Go to” dog for clients who need to work around a safe and neutral dog before venturing out into the world of unruly dogs.

She has worked aggressive, fearful and reactive client dogs from Florida all the way to Washington! Much like her owner, Heather, Elvira has been there and done that when it comes to the behavioral issues we often tackle with our clients. She has the neutral attitude needed to work with aggressive or reactive dogs but is sweetly confident and known for helping fearful come out of their shells.

And she loves people, so she won’t turn from a cookie if you offer it!
